Uda: A Minimalist Reading Lamp for Bedtime

Lighting Design that Combines Functionality and Aesthetics

Recently, designer Igor Dydykin was on a quest for the perfect reading light for bedtime. He wanted a lamp that would provide enough light for reading without disturbing his sleeping partner. However, he also wanted a design that would seamlessly blend into the wall when not in use. Frustrated with the limited options available, Dydykin decided to create his own solution.

The result is Uda, a unique and innovative reading lamp that combines functionality with minimalist design. The lamp is designed to be mounted on the wall, with two main parts that work together to provide the perfect lighting experience. The square base, which is fixed on the wall, contains the main mechanisms that control the lighting and adjust the angle of the lamp. The remote part, with a small lampshade, is connected to the base through a telescopic guide, allowing it to extend and provide a directed light flux for comfortable reading.

What sets Uda apart from other reading lamps is its focus on natural minimalism. The design is sleek and unobtrusive, blending harmoniously with any interior. When not in use, the lamp seamlessly integrates into the wall, becoming a discreet part of the decor. The adjustable angle of the lamp allows users to customize the position of the light source, reducing eye strain and fatigue during extended reading sessions.

With its compact dimensions, Uda is designed to provide targeted lighting in a limited space. The soft, gentle light emitted by the lamp creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for winding down before bedtime. The telescopic rail, with a length of 80 cm, ensures that the lamp can be adjusted to suit individuals of different heights and builds, allowing for a personalized lighting experience.

Uda is not just a functional lighting solution; it is also a reflection of the current design trends. Natural minimalism, with its emphasis on simplicity, accuracy of forms, and functionality, is gaining popularity in interior design. Uda embodies these principles, offering a practical and aesthetically pleasing solution for those who appreciate minimalist design.

The Uda reading lamp was created by a team led by Igor Dydykin, with project management by Ludmila Sapalova and design visualization by Maxim Shimchuk. The project was realized in St. Petersburg between January and February 2022.

For its innovative design and practicality, Uda has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category. This award celebrates well-designed creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. Uda's thoughtful design contributes to a better world by providing fulfillment and positive feelings through its functionality and aesthetics.
